Vigil for Victims of Terror and Drowning

Refugees ARE welcome here – In August, we backed a huge “Refugees Welcome Here” march through York’s streets. People in York know that scapegoating refugees, many of whom are fleeing atrocities in their own home cities, is unacceptable. The horror of the Paris attacks hasn’t changed that.  A Facebook group has called a protest in York against refugees coming to Britain, to be held earlier on Saturday, so we want as many people as possible coming together to show how small their numbers are, and that they don’t represent our city. Hopefully we’ll give the Christmas shoppers something positive to talk about!   Vigil for victims of terror and drowning: 4.30pm in Exhibition Square, outside York Art Gallery – More information here or Supported by City of Sanctuary, Refugee Action York and more. Let’s come together as a York community to show our solidarity with all the victims of current conflicts, terror attacks in Paris, Beirut, Mali, Ankara and those still dying trying reach Europe’s borders, by land or sea. This will be a peaceful, family-friendly event. Please spread the word, bring a friend and show that York still says ‘Refugees Welcome Here’
